Americans deserve to know whether and how businesses are using consumers’ detailed personal information—such as their location, demographics, and browsing history—to categorize individuals and set targeted prices for products or services. Our agency's efforts aim to shed light on the shadowy ecosystem of surveillance pricing, and to protect consumers and competition.

FTC Surveillance Pricing Work 

In July 2024, the FTC issued orders to intermediary companies regarding their use of surveillance pricing technologies that use personal data to set individualized prices for the same goods or services.

This collection of research summaries serves as a preview of the Surveillance Pricing 6(b) study underway.

The FTC is inviting public comments on surveillance pricing. Comments must be received no later than Thursday, April 17, 2025 by 11:59pm ET.
