FTC sends checks to people who bought extended auto warranties
The FTC is sending 18,255 payments totaling more than $449,000 to people who bought extended auto warranties from telemarketer American Vehicle Protection (AVP).
The FTC sued AVP, alleging that they made illegal sales calls, pretended to represent car dealers and manufacturers, and made false claims about their expensive bumper-to-bumper auto warranties.
As a result of the FTC’s lawsuit, AVP and related defendants were banned from selling extended auto warranties and paid money to settle. The FTC is now using that money to provide refunds to eligible AVP customers.
