FTC sends payments to people who paid for cash advances
Starting on November 18, 2024, the FTC will send 1,818,930 PayPal payments totaling more than $17 million to people who paid Brigit for instant cash advances.
Brigit falsely promised quick cash advances of up to $250 to people who paid a monthly subscription fee. The company also advertised that customers could cancel anytime, but that wasn’t true. The FTC sued Brigit, alleging that the company charged fees for instant access and often provided less than the promised amount. In many cases, customers were not able to get a cash advance at all. The FTC said that Brigit also made it difficult for customers to cancel.
To settle the lawsuit, Brigit agreed to change how it does business and paid $18 million. The FTC is using that money to provide refunds to eligible Brigit customers.
If you are eligible for a payment, you will get an email from no-reply@consumersentinel.gov between November 4, 2024, and November 15, 2024.
