FTC sends additional refunds to eligible MOBE participants
The FTC is sending payments to people who paid for My Online Business Education, or MOBE, a business coaching scheme.
The FTC sued MOBE in 2018, and the company agreed to settle. According to the FTC's lawsuit, MOBE falsely claimed that its business education program would let people start their own online businesses and earn substantial income quickly and easily using a “proven†21-step system. The defendants eventually revealed that their “proven system†required selling memberships to others in the hopes of earning commissions. Most participants lost money.
The FTC first sent payments in April 2022 and the second round of payments in July 2023. These distributions resulted in more than $23.4 million in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending 6,083 payments totaling more than $456,000 to people who accepted their second payment and paid MOBE more than $3,769.
