Black, Latino, and other communities of color have been affected by the disproportionate effect of the COVID-19 pandemic and its exacerbation of economic disparities, and by challenges involving cries for justice and equality that have caught national attention.

Join us for a two-day virtual resource fair on August 5–6 hosted by the 鶹ý Trade Commission. Nine federal agencies will share information concerning their missions and programs that are available to address these challenges and to strengthen the diverse individuals, families, and organizations that they serve. This information-packed event offers a roadmap to access federal services, build stronger relationships, and explore ways that we can work together to better serve Black, Latino, and other communities of color.

  • On Wednesday, August 5, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, U.S. Department of Justice Community Relations Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will share information concerning programs related to housing, community healing, nutrition and food stability, childcare and development, family assistance, and healthcare for older Americans, people with disabilities, and individuals suffering or at risk of addictive or mental disorders.
  • On Thursday, August 6, the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, U.S. Small Business Administration, 鶹ý Trade Commission, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and the 鶹ý Reserve Bank of Dallas will share resources addressing economic and financial interests, including employment, entrepreneurship, fraud prevention, investing, and banking.

    Programs and Tools for Empowering Residents Towards Self-Sufficiency

    This overview of HUD programs will provide a brief summary of various housing programs that HUD funds to assist individuals and communities. Individuals will also be provided information on the tools HUD uses to promote economic opportunities, such as through Family Self-Sufficiency programs at housing authorities, compliance under Section 3 of the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968, and through secretarial initiatives at EnVision Centers.

    Child Care, Family Assistance, Head Start, Medicaid, CHIP, Medicare, Aging Services, Community Health, Substance Use, Behavioral Health

    The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services enhances and protects the health and well-being of all Americans by providing for effective health and human services and fostering advances in medicine, public health, and social services. HHS programs are numerous. This session will spotlight the Administration for Children & Families (ACF) programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals and communities; the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) programs featuring Medicaid, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP); the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which provides health care to people who are geographically isolated, economically or medically vulnerable; the Administration for Community Living (ACL), which increases access to community support and resources for the unique needs of older Americans and people with disabilities; and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), which improves access and reduces barriers to programs and services for individuals who suffer from or are at risk for addictive and mental disorders, as well as for their families and communities.

    Did You Know?

    This session will provide general information about the various laws enforced by the Wage & Hour Division. The primary focus will be on the Fair Labor Standards Act, which is the law that most affects the general public, and the Family First Coronavirus Response Act, which went into effect on April 1st. In addition, participants will be provided guidance on how and what information is needed to file a complaint with the Wage & Hour Division.

    Working Together to Protect Consumers: A Guide of FTC Resources

    The FTC protects consumers by stopping unfair, deceptive or fraudulent practices in the marketplace.     Project REACh: Creating Economic Access for Diverse Communities through the Roundtable for Economic Access and Change

    OCC’s Project REACh promotes financial inclusion through increasing greater access to credit and capital. Persistent racial disparities in wealth, income, and homeownership show that America’s promise of opportunity has been more obtainable for some communities than for others. Project REACh provides an opportunity for the OCC, civil rights organizations, financial institutions and minority depository institutions, and technology innovators to develop immediately actionable ideas to address these structural issues. Project REACh aims to achieve two or three national projects and to successfully implement locally based demonstration projects that can serve as a model for financial inclusion and wealth building in communities around the country. This session will highlight these national projects as a vehicle for economic well-being.
