Economic Liberty: Opening doors to opportunity

The FTC has a long history of urging policymakers to reduce or eliminate unnecessary occupational licensing requirements imposed by state law or rules. Upon request by a state legislator, or in response to an open public comment period, FTC staff regularly shares its expertise by evaluating the likely competitive effects of proposed state legislation or regulations. Occasionally, the FTC also files amicus briefs in litigation by other parties, and comments on proposed federal regulations that may affect competition.
